Precast concrete crib retaining walls were originally developed in New Zealand where there was a requirement for a retaining wall that did not crack when constructed in areas where earth movements may be encountered. Over a period of some years, variations in the components of the crib system have been developed to suit production, construction techniques and specific local requirements with the aim of achieving cost benefits to all.

Crib retaining walls are gravity retaining walls, constructed from interlocking precast concrete components. They can be used wherever a retaining wall is needed – including building sites, driveways and garden areas. The high quality precast concrete components provide for long-term durability and will not rot or warp. The spaces in the face of the crib wall can be planted with flowers, shrubs or creepers. This allows the wall to blend in with any existing or proposed environment. Furthermore, they can easily be adapted to accommodate convex and concave curves.
